Compare systems with clear assumptions
The table gives broad 2026 planning estimates per installed pier, not quotes. Small projects may have minimum charges. Depth, access, engineering and restoration can change the number substantially. Ask whether a listed unit price includes excavation and lifting or only installing the support.
| Pier system | 2026 planning estimate per pier |
|---|
| Pressed concrete | $500–$1,200 |
| Steel push | $1,200–$2,500 |
| Helical | $1,500–$3,000 |
| Drilled bell-bottom | $1,500–$3,500+ |
Pressed concrete and steel push piers
Pressed concrete systems use concrete segments driven into the ground. Steel push systems use steel sections. Both require an installation method and acceptance criteria appropriate to the structure. Ask how the installer checks alignment, records installation and determines adequate support. A promise to stop at a particular shallow depth deserves a clear explanation.
Push systems commonly use the structure as reaction during installation. The available load and condition of the foundation therefore matter. Ask whether the proposed approach is suitable for the part of the house being supported rather than assuming every exterior wall behaves alike.
Helical and bell-bottom options
Helical piers screw into the soil, with installation torque used as part of the capacity assessment. Ask who specifies the shaft and helix configuration, how obstructions are handled and what installation records you receive. Hard or discontinuous caliche can complicate progress; a different system is not automatically cheaper once access and equipment are considered.
Bell-bottom piers use a drilled shaft with an enlarged base. Excavation conditions, groundwater and access affect feasibility. Ask how the base is formed and inspected and what cure time is required before loading. The system name alone says little about workmanship or suitability.
Buy an explained support plan
Get a drawing showing locations, quantities and the parts of the house being supported. Discuss exterior versus interior work, plumbing tests, landscaping and concrete restoration. A lower unit rate paired with unnecessary supports can cost more than a carefully justified plan. Likewise, omitting needed locations can leave the original problem unresolved.
We are a free referral service, not an installer. Independent local pros set their own prices and terms. Consider an independent engineer when proposals disagree materially about cause, pier count or bearing strategy, and ask for the complete warranty before making a choice.
